Mavericks to Face Lindenwood and Bradley Over the Weekend

The Mavericks (0-6) face two teams this week when they head over to St. Charles, Missouri to play two each against host Lindenwood (1-6) and Bradley (1-5).

Around the Horn
• Omaha was swept by Long Beach State last weekend, being outscored 23-11 in the series. Game one ultimately proved to be the closest as the Mavericks came back from a 10-2 deficit to tie it in the ninth and force extras.
• Rookie Cardel Dick led Omaha with five RBIs at LBSU, four of which came off an inside the park grand slam in a huge seventh inning for Omaha that cut the Dirtbags lead to just one run.
• Fellow newcomer Tyler Bishop also had a successful weekend in California, being the only Maverick to record a hit in all three games, including his first multi-hit game in the series opener when he got two singles and drove in his first run.
• Also having a big game last Friday was Matt Goetzmann, who recorded three hits for the first time in his career. Two of the hits were doubles, marking the first time he has done that in a game as well.
• On the mound, Preston Tenney and Brayden Curtis combined for five solid innings on Sunday. Tenney, as the opener, only needed five pitches in a 1-2-3 first, before Curtis went four innings without allowing an earned run, striking out four along the way.
• Omaha's bullpen featured several strong performances, including two shutout innings from Ethan Louthan in game one. Through 2.2 innings in two appearances, he has yet to allow a baserunner. Luke Gainer had a couple of great games too, firing a career-high 3.1 IP with a personal best four strikeouts on Friday before working a scoreless inning on Sunday. There was also Nick Scanlon, who tossed two scoreless with three strikeouts on Saturday.
Scouting Lindenwood
Lindenwood opens their 2024 season at 1-6 after an 0-3 weekend at Arkansas State in which the Lions lost each game by one.
Lindenwood's top hitter so far has been infielder Bryson Arnette who is batting .346 with a .947 OPS, along with team highs in RBIs (five) and hits (nine). First baseman Dawson Hokuf leads the team with a .979 OPS despite only hitting .176. He owes this to already having two home runs on the season and five HBPs.
On the mound, the Lions' top starter is currently Eli Brown, who leads the rotation with a 4.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 18 strikeouts in 10.1 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Carson Subbert has yet to allow a run in 4.2 innings, while Easton Rakers has given up just two in 6.1 innings across two extended outings.
Head Coach PJ Finigan is in his first season as a baseball head coach and second season overall with the Lions. He previously spent three seasons as an assistant at SIU Edwardsville and nine with SIU Carbondale.
Scouting Bradley
Bradley is currently 1-5 o begin their 2024 campaign after a three-game sweep at the hands of UNLV last week.
Infielder Timmy O'Brien heads up the Braves' offense with a .318 BA and .742 OPS, along with three runs and two doubles. Right behind him is catcher Logan Delgado is the only other player with an OPS above. 700 and has Bradley's only home run so far.
Starting pitcher Jack Stellano owns a 3.00 ERA to lead the rotation, though, has only totaled six innings pitched. Noah Edders leads all starters with 11.1 IP, a 1.41 WHIP, and nine strikeouts. Relievers Anthony Edge and Nick Hainline have combined for 7.2 innings and seven strikeouts while allowing just one run.
Elvis Dominguez is in his 16th season at the helm of the Braves and his 23rd overall as a head coach after getting his start with seven seasons at Eastern Kentucky. Under his guidance, 23 players have been selected in the MLB Draft with 11 of them making the Major Leagues. He also led the Braves to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over 40 years back in 2015.
