Drake and Blackstock Wrap Up Diving Season at NCAA Zone D Championship

Ian Blackstock and Darby Drake competed in the NCAA Zone D Diving Championship in Houston Texas earlier this week.

Blackstock, a four-time Summit League Diver of the Week, was the first diver in the men's program history to qualify for the NCAA Zone Championships. During the 1-meter preliminary/quarterfinal Blackstock placed 24th with a final score of 252.10. Blackstock placed 24th again during the 3-meter preliminary/quarterfinal with a score of 265.40.

"Darby and Ian wrapped up their season in Houston today with some of the top divers in the country trying to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships," said head coach Eric Sprague Ian is our first diver in program history on the men's team to qualify for this meet and he held his own and got some great experience in the process. His progress and work ethic are admirable and with one more season of eligibility left, I'm sure he'll use this experience to his advantage."

Drake, a seven-time Summit League Diver of the Week, placed 26th on the one-meter with a score of 255.25, which was the highest among all mid-majors competing. On the 3-meter, Drake placed 46th with a final score of 223.40.

"This is Darby's second trip to this meet and the first time she was qualified to compete on both boards. That previous experience was certainly beneficial for Darby, and she put together a great performance on 1 meter Monday. Her 26th place finish was the highest of any mid-major competitor at the competition and is now the highest finish a Maverick has had in a Zone Championship. Darby had an incredible year, and she should be proud of how she performed after missing most of last season due to injury."
