Gainer Named to Stopper of the Year Watchlist

DALLAS, Texas (NCBWA) - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its 20th annual National Stopper of the Year Watchlist today, with Omaha's closer Luke Gainer earning a spot. The award is given every year to the top relief pitcher in Division I baseball.
Last year, Gainer was named Second Team All-Summit after leading all relievers in conference play with a .183 BAA and was top three in ERA (2.48), saves (four), and strikeouts (35). On the season as a whole he posted a 3.80 ERA and five saves in 42.2 innings across 22 appearances. His 56 strikeouts last year were good for 11.8 K/9.
On April 29, Gainer was named the conference pitcher of the week after tossing four shutout innings across two games vs. North Dakota State, earning the save in the first game and the win in the second. He allowed just one hit while striking out six.
