Latkoczy and Krenzen named finalists for NCHC individual awards

OMAHA, Neb. – Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy has been named a finalist for NCHC Goaltender of the Year and Menke Family Captain and graduate defenseman Nolan Krenzen is a finalist for NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year, the conference announced on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Latkoczy became the first Maverick named to the First-Team All-NCHC since former Omaha forward David Pope in 2017-18.
The Trencin, Slovakia native ranks in the top 10 in the NCHC (min. 33% of the team's minutes played) in several categories. Through 29 games played, Latkoczy has 909 saves, leading the NCHC and seventh in the nation. His .925 save percentage is the second-best in the conference, and Latkoczy's 2.68 goals-against average is the 10th-best in the NCHC.
The 5-foot-11, 177-pound netminder also has one shutout this season and has recorded three of the NCHC's top five games in 2024-25 with the most saves by one goaltender.
This includes the most saves by an NCHC goaltender in a single game this season, recorded on Oct. 12 in Las Vegas, when Latkoczy recorded 53 against then-No. 5 Minnesota to lead Omaha to the 2024 Ice Breaker Tournament title.
Krenzen was named the 25th captain in Omaha history before the 2024-25 season.
The Twig, Minn., native has been a defensive force since his freshman season in 2020-21. In the 2024-25 campaign, the Twig, Minn., native has skated in all 34 games and has recorded nine assists. His 40 blocks lead all Maverick blueliners and his plus-5 rating is second among Omaha defensemen this season.
Among active NCHC defensemen, Krenzen's 157 blocks are tied for fourth-most and is tied for ninth in plus/minus at plus-19 over his career. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound defenseman has played in 159 career games, tied for the fourth-most in Omaha history.
#4 (seed) Omaha will face #5 North Dakota for the second straight week, but this time on Kemp Ice at Baxter Arena in the NCHC Quarterfinal Round. Game one is on Friday, March 14, at 7 p.m. CT, game two is on Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. CT, and if necessary, game three will occur on Sunday, March 16, at 6 p.m. CT.
