Mar 2, 2025 | Men's Tennis
DAYTON, Ohio - The Mavericks concluded their stretch of two matches in under 20 hours with a 5-2 loss at Dayton today.
Omaha drops to 4-7 on the season while the Flyers have now won nine in a row to improve to 11-2.
For the fourth consecutive match, Mikhail Korkunov and Bryan Kuntz came out on top in the doubles round, initially losing a 5-3 lead ending up tied 6-6, before running away with the tiebreaker point in a 7-6 (7-3) win over Eric Suk and Mikkel Zinder. In the next match, Mikel Garmendia and Ethan Gaubert nearly secured the doubles point for Omaha in a back-and-forth battle with Sainandan Dore and Sturle Hoff Skigelstrand that saw each duo trade points until they ended up tied 6-6. In the end, though, team from Dayton won the final three points to take the tiebreaker.
Gaubert got even with Dore in the singles round as he got Omaha started with a come-from-behind 7-5, 6-4 win that saw him come back from behind down 2-4 in the second set. The Mavericks only got one more win in singles play, however, when Korkunov bounced back after letting his lead slip away in the second set with a 7-6 (7-4) win in the final set to secure his victory.
