Baseball rallies for 12-11 win over Northern Colorado

Freshman Edoardo Cornelli lined a two-run single to left in the ninth inning to give Omaha the lead, and freshman Chris Coy earned the save in his first career pitching appearance. Nate Moquin pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the win and improve to 1-2.
Omaha (16-22, 11-9 Summit) used 13 pitchers, turned four double plays — a Division I-era program record — and totaled 15 hits to secure the series win over Northern Colorado (13-33, 10-12 Summit).
"That was one of my favorite wins I've ever had, and you guys did that together," head coach Evan Porter told his team after the game. "I'm so proud of you guys for not giving in, not giving up. That was awesome."
Jackson Trout opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, his seventh of the season. The league's leading hitter finished the weekend 5-for-14 with five RBIs, two doubles, a triple and a home run.
Trailing 9-3 entering the sixth, Omaha capitalized on two Northern Colorado errors to score four runs. Alexandre Laurence delivered his first career RBI with a double, and Henry Zipay followed with an RBI double to trim the deficit to 9-7. The reigning Summit League Player of the Year, Zipay extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
Tyler Bishop homered for the second straight game with a solo shot in the third, then added a triple in the sixth and a double in the ninth. His double in the final inning set up Brody Sexton's game-tying RBI double before Cornelli's go-ahead hit.
"So many guys stepped up. We used every single guy that we could today," Porter said. "That's what it's going to take to end the season in a special way."
Omaha travels to Kansas State for a nonconference game Wednesday before heading to conference-leading Oral Roberts next weekend. The Mavericks return home to face South Dakota State, May 13-16.
The Summit League Championship will be hosted by St. Thomas at Siebert Field in Minneapolis from May 20-23. All Summit League games are streamed on the Summit League Network via Midco Sports.
