OMAHA - Omaha men's basketball and head coach Chris Crutchfield announced the signing of Cory Curtis Jr. on Friday afternoon.
"Cory brings a unique skill set to our roster. He is an experienced guard who understands how to play. He is an excellent 3-point shooter and can play on the ball if needed. We are excited to have him be a part of Omaha Basketball," Coach Crutchfield said.
Curtis Jr. is a 6-foot-4 guard from Los Angeles, California, where he attended View Park Prep. Curtis Jr. then became one of the top junior college players in the country during his sophomore season at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas.
Curtis Jr. averaged 23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. His 23.2 points per game during the 2023-24 season ranked eighth in the NJCAA. Curtis Jr. scored in volume for the Pirates, recording five games with 30 or more points and 16 games with 20 or more points.
Curtis Jr. went on to play at Long Beach State but suffered a season-ending injury six games into the 2024-25 season. The injury also forced him to miss time at Kansas City during the 2025-26 season.
The Mavericks will be in action Oct. 15Â for an exhibition at Minnesota. The Mavs' season opener is Nov. 2 against MACC.
