Mavs No. 3, Prepare for UNK Tournament
Coach Mike Denney's Maverick wrestling team has moved up a notch to No. 3 in the latest coaches' poll released Wednesday. UNO was in the No. 4 slot in the pre-season rankings. Meanwhile, the Mavs are preparing to wrap up the 2003 portion of their schedule Saturday when they compete in the Nebraska-Kearney Open.
UNO, which has not wrestled any dual meets thus far, will take a break over the holidays and resume competition in the Jan. 3 Dana Open.
J.D. Naig, 165 pounds, has posted a 14-3 mark so far and 133-pounder Mitch Waite an 11-3 record. Each has registered tournament victories in the three meets of the early season. Waite is ranked No. 4 at this weight by the NWCA and Naig is ranked fifth.
The next home appearance for UNO is Jan. 10 in the Brand Open. The first dual meet will be Jan. 30 when UNO hosts South Dakota State.
