Mavs Cruise to 31-3 Win Over Jackrabbits
No. 3 ranked UNO won nine of 10 matches and cruised to a 31-3 North Central Conference wrestling victory over South Dakota State Friday night at Sapp Fieldhouse in front of 445 fans. The Mavericks improved to 5-1 on the season before Saturday night's non-conference match with Central Missouri State at 7.
Mitch Waite got the Mavericks started with a technical fall over Jarrod Chapa. Waite held a 16-0 lead when the match was stopped after just 2:08. His teammates rattled off six more wins before the Jackrabbits scored their lone victory, a 9-4 decision by Tim Boldt over UNO's Ben Strandberg at 197 pounds.
No. 1 ranked heavyweight Les Sigman, the defending NCAA II champion, improved to 31-1 on the season with a major decision over SDSU's Craig Martinmaas, 10-2.
