Mavs Down Central Missouri State, Improve to 6-1
No. 3 UNO improved to 6-1 with a 35-2 non-conference victory over Central Missouri State Saturday night in front of 390 fans at Sapp Fieldhouse. The Mavericks posted two major decisions and, for the second night in a row, won nine of 10 matches.
Mitch Waite improved to 25-5 with a 9-0 major decision over Greg Waag in the first match, at 133 pounds, and J.D. Naig, now 30-6, downed Justin Cooper 11-1 at 165. Naig's win was UNO's fifth straight and gave the Mavericks a 17-0 cushion.
Central Missouri State's Brett Bargarick posted the Mules' only win with a 4-3 decision over Steve Conlin at 174 pounds. A team point was later deducted from the Mules' total by the referee.
No. 1 ranked heavyweight Les Sigman improved his record to 32-1 with an 8-3 decision over Willie McCowan, who is ranked No. 5.
