Mavs Name Nate Neuhaus to Staff
Nate Neuhaus will join the staff of Coach Pat Behrns as a defensive assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Neuhaus, a former player and assistant coach at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, replaces Fred Reed on the Maverick staff. Reed, the defensive coordinator for two seasons, recently accepted a position on the football staff at Ohio University. Behrns then appointed Brad McCaslin as the team's new defensive coordinator.
"Nate has demonstrated his coaching ability and he's knows what it takes to succeed at this level of football," Behrns said. "I think he will complement our staff very well."
Neuhaus has coached defensive backs at UNK for four years as a graduate assistant and full-time. The McCook, Neb., native is a 1999 graduate of UNK where he earned all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors as a three-year starter at cornerback.
He played one season for the Lincoln Lightning arena football team before spending two years as the defensive back and wide receivers coach at Columbus, Neb., High School. He then returned to UNK to earn his master's degree in 2003 while also assisting with the football team.
Neuhaus will join the staff in time for the start of spring practice on March 21.
