Mav Recruiting Class Lists 24
With one of his largest recruiting classes on board, University of Nebraska at Omaha head coach Pat Behrns said that he was satisfied that the Mavericks have met their priorities.
"Every year you go into the recruiting process wanting to fill your needs," Behrns said. "I think we've done that with this class."
A total of 24 high school recruits have either signed a national letter of intent or have signed an acceptance of an offer of admission from UNO.
In addition, Behrns said that wide receiver Casey Hausman has transferred from Kansas State. The Narka, Kan., native will be a junior next fall and is already enrolled in school.
The priorities for Behrns and his staff included: recruiting a placekicker; filling out a linebacking corps depleted by graduation; adding quality defensive linemen; getting tight ends, and adding young quarterbacks.
In all cases, Behrns said, the Mavericks succeeded.
All-class, all-state placekicker Greg Zuerlein, Lincoln Pius X, converted 43 of 45 PATs and 12 of 16 FG attempts last year.
The Mavs also recruited eight linebackers; three defensive linemen, a nose guard, two tight ends and a pair of quarterbacks, including second-team all-class, all-state standout Jared Hyland of Omaha Burke. Hyland set seven school records and passed for a Class A record 2,617 yards last year.
The 2006 class has a heavy Nebraska flavor, with 18 players from in-state high schools. The remainder include one each from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Florida, Kansas and Wisconsin.
Other all-state standouts include defensive lineman Harrison Lingenfelter, who was all-Class C2 at Plainview High School and a second-team all-class, all-state pick, and Justin Sindelar, an all Eight Man-1 defensive lineman from Howells.
The Mavericks shared the North Central Conference title last year and made their fifth playoff appearance under Behrns. UNO, 8-3 last year, has had 10 straight winning seasons.
