8 Mavericks Win to Give UNO Lead
FINDLAY, Ohio -- Eight of 10 Mavericks won their first-round matches Friday, helping UNO move into first place in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Tournament. The Mavs hold a 16-10.5 lead over second-place Nebraska-Kearney heading into the evening session.
All but 184-pounder Nate Oviatt, who dropped a 2-1 overtime decision, and 197-pound Nick Edmonds, advanced to second-round matches. Oviatt and Edmonds will wrestle in the first round of consolation matches Friday night.
Heavyweight Les Sigman took the first step toward capturing his fourth straight national title with a fall in 6:07 over Ashland's Josh Ohl. The win was the 70th straight for the Sturgis, S.D., senior.
