Mavericks Host Brand Open Saturday
The University of Nebraska at Omaha returns home to host the Brand Open on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Sapp Fieldhouse. About 200 wrestlers are expected to compete in the meet, which will get underway at 9 a.m.

The Mavericks moved up to the No. 2 spot in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll released last week.
UNO has seven ranked individuals led by defending national champion Todd Meneely, who is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds. Cody Garcia is fourth at 125, Sim Bribieseca fifth at 141, Aaron Denson, seventh at 165, Austin Boehm, second at 184, Jacob Marrs, third at 197, and Tony Lewis, seventh at 285.
The Coach
Mike Denney is in his 29th season as the Maverick head coach. The Dakota Wesleyan graduate has a 268-106-5 career mark. He has twice been named the NCAA II National Coach of the Year and led the 1991, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Mavericks to NCAA II national championships.
Last Week
Junior Ross Taplin was named the North Central Conference Wrestler of the Week after going 4-0 last week at the NWCA National Duals. The Mavericks finished second at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa last week, falling to Minnesota State in the finals, 19-17.
On Deck
The Mavericks will be on the road next weekend with a pair of duals scheduled for Jan. 25-26. The team will stop in St. Peter, Minn., on Jan. 25 to take on Division III power, Augsburg, before opening conference action Jan. 26 against North Central Conference foe St. Could State in St. St. Cloud, Minn.
