Lewis Nabs NCC Honor
Junior heavyweight Tony Lewis was named the North Central Conference wrestler of the week on Feb. 12 for his performance in helping the Mavericks upset top-ranked Minnesota State last Friday in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Lewis, a junior from Ulysses, Kan., defeated Brady Wilson of Minnesota State, 3-1, in three overtimes to help Nebraska-Omaha beat Minnesota State, 32-7.
Lewis avenged an overtime loss to Wilson in the finals of the NWCA National Duals in January which gave MSU the team victory, 18-16, to claim the title.
Lewis is ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II competition while Wilson is ranked No. 2. UNO was ranked No. 2 as a team coming into the dual while Minnesota State was ranked No. 1.
The Mavericks will host Augustana in North Central Conference action Wednesday night, Feb. 13, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
