Millard West Standout Leinbaugh to Enroll Early wi
UNO head football coach Pat Behrns announced on Thursday that Zach Leinbaugh, a senior at Millard West High School, will graduate high school early and join the Mavs for the upcoming 2011 spring semester, making him the first ever high school recruit to enroll early with the Mavericks’ football program.
Leinbaugh signed a scholarship tender on Thursday to enroll early at UNO and begin participating in team activities when the spring semester begins.
Leinbaugh, who was recruited to play defensive back at UNO, starred at both cornerback and wide receiver at Millard West, a school that typically only has its players play on one side of the ball.
Playing under former UNO football player Kirk Peterson at Millard West, Leinbaugh was a two-time Class A All-State honoree. The 5-10, 180-pounder ran a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash to win the “Fastest Man Competition” at UNL’s summer football camp. He chose UNO because of the relationship he built up with the Mavs’ coaches and the opportunity to play close to home.
Leinbaugh's father, Rick, played football for Iowa State. Leinbaugh is interested in studying sports nutrition at UNO.
