Mavs Host Augustana, Travel to SDSU

The eight-ranked Mavericks will wrap up a three-game North Central Conference homestand when they host Augustana Friday at 4 p.m. Saturday will be an off day and Sunday UNO (12-1-1) will head to South Dakota State for a 1 p.m. contest. The following Saturday's South Dakota matchup will conclude NCC play for the Mavs and a trip to Rockhurst Nov. 2 will wrap up the regular season. The Mavs sit at 3-1 in the conference and in a three-way tie at the top with North Dakota and Minnesota State, Mankato. South Dakota State sits in third with a 2-1-1 NCC record.
Last week the Mavs gave up a two-year weekend high of four goals but managed to net ten of their own with a 4-3 win over MSU and a 6-1 win against St. Cloud State.
About the Vikings and Jackrabbits
Augustana set a school record with its fifth win earlier in the year and now has a 6-8-1 (0-4-0 NCC) record. Freshman Erin Seidel's 15 goals is a season and career record for the four-year-old Viking program. Coach Steve Burckhalter is in his second year and will look for AC's first win against the Mavs. UNO holds a 3-0 edge in the series record and has outscored the Vikings 37-1.
South Dakota State's (7-3-3) biggest win came last weekend with a 1-0 double-overtime win against No. 6 North Dakota. The Jackrabbits then managed a tie with North Dakota State to wrap-up the weekend with a 1-1-2 NCC mark. All four conference games have gone into overtime. Senior Melissa Speiser leads the team with 16 points (6 goals, 4 assists) and senior Nebraska transfer Erin Miller holds a 0.46 goals allowed average. Miller went 33-11-4 in two seasons at NU and compiled 21 shutouts. Coach Lang Wedemeyer entered his fourth year at SDSU and holds a 35-29-4 record. The Mavs lead the series record 3-0.
On Deck for UNO
Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 25, will wrap up NCC play for the Mavs. Heidi Bargmann, Jessica Dotson and Stephanie Kirby will all be honored prior to the 1 p.m. contest with South Dakota. The Mavericks will finish the regular season at Rockhurst Nov. 2 before the NCC tournament begins the following week.
