Mavs Host Minnesota State, St. Cloud State

UNO will continue North Central Conference play this weekend when it hosts Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday and St. Cloud State Sunday at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. Both contests begin at 1 p.m. The Mavs suffered their first regular season loss in nearly two years when North Dakota defeated them 2-0 last Saturday to fall to 10-1-1 (1-1 NCC). The Mavericks picked themselves up the following day when Junior Molly Herzberg broke a streak of 265 minutes without a Maverick goal. She scored Sunday en route to a 4-0 Maverick win over North Dakota State.
About the Mavericks and the Huskies
Minnesota State, Mankato improved to 8-4 (2-0-0) last weekend with wins over Augustana and South Dakota State under Coach Chris Miskec. Senior Amber Dusosky scored three goals in those games, icluding the game-winner two minutes into overtime against SDSU, and leads her team with 11 on the year. Last year she led the NCC with 24 conference points (10 goals, 4 assists) and was the lone MSU first-team all-NCC member. Goalkeeper Erica Destache has a 1.37 goals allowed average this season. Last year UNO had no problem in two matches with Minnesota State, Mankato, winning 3-0 in Mankato and 5-2 in the conference tournament in Omaha. UNO holds a 6-1 all-time record.
St. Cloud State jumped to 6-4-2 (1-0-1 NCC) after topping Auggie 3-0 and tying SDSU at zero. Trista Cook scored the three Huskie goals and leads her team with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists). Stephanie Brendel has played every minute in goal and holds a 1.45 goals allowed average. Coach Stephanie McGuinness and the Huskies need just one more conference win to match last year's total of two.
On Deck for UNO
Non-conference play continues for the Mavs Oct. 17 when they host Augustana and Oct. 19 when they travel to South Dakota State. Three conference games and a trip to Rockhurst are all that remain on UNO's schedule.
