
UNO Closes Out 2003 Season at South Dakota

Nebraska-Omaha (11-18/2-11) will close out the 2003 season this Thursday, Nov. 13, when the Mavericks travel to Vermillion, S.D., to battle the South Dakota Coyotes (18-9/9-5) in a 7 p.m. match at the DakotaDome on the USD campus. The Mavericks lone senior Kylie Lebeda will be playing in her final match in a UNO uniform.

UNO is 11-18 overall on the season and 2-11 in the NCC after splitting a pair of NCC road matches last week, defeating St. Cloud State 3-0, while losing at 16th-ranked Minnesota State 3-0. The Mavericks are tied with South Dakota State for seventh in the NCC standings.
Junior Amy (Sibbernsen) McLeay (4.26 kpg, .221 hit %) has been the Mavericks' top offensive threat. McLeay, who was married on Sep. 26, has been named to the all-tournament teams at both the Lynn Labor Day Classic and the UNO Tournament, and currently ranks second in the NCC in kills per league game (4.08). Sophomore libero Chelsea Miller (3.15 dpg) and McLeay (3.09 dpg) lead the UNO defense.

South Dakota is currenly 18-9 on the season and 8-5 in the NCC. The Coyotes are in serious contention for the program's first ever NCAA Tournament berth as South Dakota is currently ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA North Central Region rankings, with the top six teams advancing to post-season play. The 18 wins by USD this season ties a school record.
The Coyotes are led by senior rightside hitter Becky Olson who is averaging 4.14 kills and 2.80 digs per game. Junior Lindsey Soukup is second on the team with 3.28 kills and 3.57 digs per game. Junior libero Lacey Ross is averaging a team-leading 4.19 digs per game.
