Mavs Advance to Play MSU in Central Final

OMAHA, Neb.- Senior Jessica Dotson's goal with 12 minutes remaining gave the Mavs some breathing room on their way to a 3-1 win over eighth-ranked Truman State in the second game of the NCAA Central Region tournament at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. UNO (15-3-2) advances to play Minnesota State, Mankato, 2-1 winners over North Dakota in the earlier game, Sunday at noon.
Truman opened up the scoring 11 minutes in when Sara Murray gathered her 51st point with a goal on a pass from Stephanie Cepicky. The goal marked the first scored by the Bulldogs in the last four games against the Mavs.
UNO junior Ashley Grace scored her team-leading 13th goal to tie the match ten minutes later when she connected with freshman Haley Fries at the right side of the box. Fifteen minutes into the second half UNO got the game-winner when Fries headed in senior Stephanie Kirby's free kick from 30 yards out for her tenth. Dotson sealed UNO's second trip to the regional finals when she took a Kirby pass and dribbled through the Bulldog defense and put a shot past keeper Lauren Davis to score her second goal on the season.
The Mavs broke their two-game losing streak thanks to sophomore goalkeeper Amy Price making two huge saves with 13 minutes remaining in the first half and freshman Megan Herzberg stopping a would-be game tying goal for Truman in the second half.
Price came out and stuffed two shots from TSU's Ellen Wright. With 25 minutes remaining and the Mavs up 2-1, Herzberg jumped up from the goal line and headed a Bulldog shot out after Price came forward to stop an earlier shot. Price made seven saves en route to her 14th win.
Game 1- Minnesota State 2 - North Dakota 1
Minnesota State, Mankato advanced to Sunday's NCAA II Central Region final with a 2-1 win over North Dakota Friday afternoon. Stephanie Pfeiffer gave North Dakota a 1-0 first half lead with a 20-yard shot at the 15:53 mark after a pass from Jen Cilz. MSU tied the match on a goal by Amber Dusacky at the 54:49 mark. Danni Klinsing scored the game-winner at 64:44.
MSU and UNO will meet for the fourth year in a row in a tournament final. This time, the winner advances to the NCAA quarterfinal to play the winner of the Great Lakes Region tournament.
