Graham's Layup Beats Buzzer, Bruins, 65-64

Senior guard Ty Graham's driving layup at the buzzer boosted the Mavericks past Bellevue University, 65-64, in the first round of the Maverick Classic at Sapp Fieldhouse Friday night in front of 2,500 fans. The Mavericks will meet Concordia-St. Paul Saturday night at 8 in the second game of the tournament.
UNO (4-0) came from 15 points down in the closing eight minutes to pull out the win.
The Bruins led all the way behind 20-point performances by Jared Anderson and James Mills and 15 points by Brent Heller.
The Mavs, down 37-26 at the half, trailed by as many as 15 twice and were down by 11 with 4:24 left when sophomore guard Zac Robinson and Graham nailed three-pointers and Tola Dada hit a free throw to pull UNO within 61-57. After the Bruins went up by six on a Heller layup, Robinson connected again from behind the arc to slice the Bruin lead to 63-60 with 1:58 left.
Calvin Kapels converted a pair of free shots with 35 seconds left and UNO trailed by a single point. Mills then hit one of two free throws with 21 seconds left to give the Bruins a 64-62 lead, but committed his fifth foul seconds later to send Dada back to the stripe. Dada missed the first shot, then hit the second and UNO was once again within a point, 64-63 with eight seconds left.
Graham was forced to foul Ben Holling with six seconds left on the inbounds pass and Holling missed both shots. Dada rebounded the miss and passed to Graham who drove the lane, barely getting the shot off in time.
Robinson's career-high 15 points, on five of six three-pointers, led UNO, while Dada added 14 and a game-high 11 rebounds, which matched a career-best.
