Mavs Seek Fourth Straight NCC Crown

The Mavs will head to Mankato, Minn., this weekend to defend three straight North Central Conference post season tournament championships. UNO (14-2-2) fell to 15th in the nation after losing 2-0 to Rockhurst last weekend but already wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the four-team NCC tournament. Third seeded North Dakota will face the Mavs and top-seeded Minnesota State will battle with No. 4 South Dakota State in the two semifinal matchups on Friday. The championship match will take place Saturday.
A fourth straight NCC championship will give UNO a good chance to host the four-team NCAA Central Region tournament. Parings for the Nov. 14-16 event will be announced Nov. 10 at 4 p.m and the Mavs were the top team in the most recently released regional rankings.
Mavs drop to 15th
After suffering just their second loss of the year, the Mavs dropped from 8th to 15th in the NSCAA/adidas national ranking released Nov. 3, their lowest ranking of the season. They will have a chance to climb back up the polls with an NCC championship next weekend.
In-region opponent Truman State climbed all the way to No. 8 and will wrap up its regular season Saturday against Missouri Southern. Minnesota State continued its climb, now sitting at No. 23.
Mavs on top where it counts
The NCAA Central Region committee will announce the tournament parings on Nov. 10. In the most recent NCAA poll, released Oct. 27, the Mavs were No. 1 in the Central Region, but since suffered a loss. A strong performance in the NCC tournament will give the Mavs a good chance to keep the top ranking and host the four-team regional tournament. Truman was second, followed by MSU and UND. The winner of the Central Region will host the Great Lakes Region winner in the quarterfinal.
