Mavs Add Transfer to Roster

University of Nebraska at Omaha men's basketball coach Kevin McKenna said today that Shaun Wumkes has transferred from Drake University and has enrolled at UNO.
Wumkes, a 6-9, 225-pound center, is a native of Garner, Iowa, and a graduate of Garner-Hayfield High School. He redshirted at Drake in 2002-03. Wumkes will be a freshman in eligibility and will be eligible for the Mavericks' Jan. 3 game at home against Morningside.
Wumkes committed to Drake before his senior season. The three-year high school starter earned second-team Iowa Class 2-A all-state honors as a senior as 26-1 Garner-Hayfield, the No. 1 ranked 2-A team in the state, lost its only game in the state meet final. He averaged 12.7 points and 7.1 rebounds, blocked 64 shots and shot 67.1 percent from the field as a senior. Wumkes finished his career with 900 points and blocked at least one shot in 85 of his 95 career games.
He is the son of Bernie Wumkes and Robin Wilson.
