Kirby and Fritz Named All-Americans

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Senior midfielder Stephanie Kirby (Elkhorn, Neb.) became a two-time All-American Wednesday night, one night before she and the University of Nebraska at Omaha Mavericks play in the NCAA semifinals. Joining Kirby was first-time honoree Becca Fritz (Omaha), a second team member and a sophomore defender for the Mavericks. The two were recognized at the Division II women's and men's final four banquet.
Kirby, a member of the first group of Maverick All-Americans last year and a four-time all-North Central Conference selecion, has started in all 22 Maverick games this year, gathering 27 points (10 goals, 7 assists). She has 84 points in her four years and her 34 career assists are a UNO record. Fritz, starting in 21 games, has helped the Mavs to 13 shutouts and a 0.75 goals allowed average. She and the rest of the Maverick defense have kept opponents to an average of just 4.9 shots on goal per game.
The Mavs, 17-3-2, will play Kennesaw State Thursday night at 4:30 CST for a chance to advance to the finals for the second straight year. Franklin Pierce and UC-San Diego will play in the other semifinal with the winners meeting Saturday at 5 p.m. for the national title
