Meet The Mavs This Saturday

OMAHA, Neb.-- The annual "Meet the Mavs" media day will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. with an exhibition with Bellevue University following at 5. The Mavs will wrap up the pre-season the following day, 6 p.m., at Creighton. UNO fell in the exhibition opener last week 6-1 to the Canadian Under-17 Team.
The regular season kicks off August 29 with a home game against Minnesota-Duluth at 5 p.m. The Mavs will play 10 games at Ak-Sar-Ben this year, including a match-up with fellow NCAA II semifinalist, Metro State. The Mavs and the Roadrunners will meet for the first time September 28 at 1 p.m.
UNO finished 22-1-0 and made it to the NCAA championship game last year, losing 2-1 to Christian Brothers (Tenn.), in just their fourth year of competition, compiling a 68-16-0 record in those four years. The team finished
second in the national ranking. All-Americans Stephanie Kirby and Amy Price will help lead the Mavs as they seek a fourth-straight conference
crown and another chance at a national title.
Mavs continue pre-season practice
The Mavs will practice everyday this week at 1:30 p.m. at Ak-sar-Ben except Wednesday. As the regular season begins, the Mavs will practice at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays.
Last Week
The Mavericks lost 6-1 to the Canadian U-17 National Team in its exhibition opener August 12 at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben. Junior Brytten Kraft scored the only Maverick goal on a cross from sophomore Christen Boeckel at the 1:30 mark. Sophomores Amy Price and Jane Splittgerber split time in goal each half for the Mavs. Price recorded six saves, played 71 minutes and gave up all six goals. Splittgerber made three saves in 19 minutes. Canadian
goalkeeper Liz Cook played the entire game and made three saves.
