Price Saves the Day Against Drake
Sep 26, 2003 | Women's Soccer
DES MOINES, Iowa- Sophomore Amy Price put on a show Friday night making two big saves in the first half and two big saves in the second to secure a 1-0 shutout over division I Drake for the top-ranked Mavs in Des Moines. The Bulldogs desperately attempted to tie the score late in the game after senior Stephanie Kirby put in a corner kick for the game's only goal.
Drake's offense flooded the Maverick box with nine shots on goal, but Price came up big, stopping all of them, and junior Brytten Kraft broke up another sure Bulldog goal in the final ten minutes. Price made two of her greatest collegiate saves in the final two minutes when she stopped two point-blank shots to secure her seventh shutout.
Kirby put in her fifth goal at 52:11 when junior Molly Herzberg took a corner kick from the right. Kirby took the high kick on a bounce and fired it in from the left side of the box into the back of the Bulldog net. Herzberg now has two assists.
The Mavs (9-0-0) evened their all-time record against D I schools at 3-3 and picked up their eight shutout. Third-ranked Metro State will meet the Mavs Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Soccer Field at Ak-Sar-Ben.
