Battle of Unbeatens Ends in Scoreless Tie
Sep 28, 2003 | Women's Soccer
OMAHA, Neb.- Top-ranked UNO and No. 3 Metro State played to a scoreless tie after two halves and two overtime periods Sunday afternoon at the soccer field at Ak-Sar-Ben. The Mavs, shut out for the first time since Creighton blanked them in 2001, recorded their first tie in school history. Both teams moved to 9-0-1.
It wasn't easy for either defense to secure the scoreless tie. UNO took three shots early in the first overtime and five in the second. Four overtime shots were on goal for the Mavs. After making nine huge saves Friday at Drake, sophomore keeper Amy Price stopped six Roadrunner shots, two in overtime, for her eighth shutout. Metro's Mandy Allen made ten saves in goal.
The Mavs had chances in the first half when senior Jessica Dotson hit the post with four minutes remaining and junior Brytten Kraft did the same thing two minutes later. Metro State's Naomi Clark took a shot with nine minutes left in regulation, but it was safely punched over the net by Price.
Metro's offense was slowed by 13 offsides calls and 14 fouls, but the Mavs couldn't capitalize with the 27 free kicks and 12 corner kicks.
