#13 Mavericks Nab Fifth Shutout

Facing the University of Minnesota-Duluth for the first time as a North Central Conference opponent, UNO welcomed the Bulldogs to the conference by defeating them 4-0.
UNO used quick scoring to take care of the Bulldogs, tallying three goals in less than six minutes. At the 12:29 mark, UNO took advantage of an offside call as goalkeeper Amy Price sent a long ball to Brandie Beale who sneaked through the Duluth defense and netted the goal.
The second Maverick goal resulted from a corner kick sent by Amber Richardson, creating a scramble in front of the goal with Beale also assiting to Beth McGill who nabbed her UNO team-leading 15th goal.
Anne Willrett joined the scoring fun, taking a long Richardson pass for the score. At the half UNO led 3-0 and did not score again until the final 10 minutes of play. Willrett recorded her second goal of the game at the 81:46 mark as she took a one-on-one hard shot off of the charging Duluth goalie Briana Francisco. The ball caromed off Francisco, and as she layed on the turf, Willrett was able to shoot the ball into the open net.
Amy Price and Ellen Petersen both saw action between the pipes, combining for the shutout. Price recorded two saves including Duluth's best chance for a goal in the second half.
Charging out of the box, Price was able to get a piece of the shot, but UMD player Laura Mayerle was unable to capitalize on the chance, missing the left post by a foot.
With three wins during the week, UNO pushed its record to 12-2-1 including a 3-0- North Central Conference record. The Mavs do not play until next weekend when they travel north to face Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday Oct. 16 at 11 a.m and South Dakota Sunday Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
