UNO Defeats USD, Moves Into First Place

Vermillion, S.D.---In the battle of the North Central Conference unbeatens, UNO prevailed, defeating The University of South Dakota 2-0 behind second-half goals by Brandie Beale and Beth McGill.
With both teams in double-digit unbeaten streaks and both unbeaten in the North Central Conference, the game was all it was cracked up to be, an exciting soccer match. Following a scoreless first-half, it wasn't until the 79:16 mark when UNO finally lit up the scoreboard.
Brandie Beale scored her 10th goal of the year, assisted by Brytten Kraft and Beth McGill. The Mavs' one-goal lead quickly changed to two when Beth McGill put a free-kick into the upper right corner at 80:30 past Coyote goalie Candice Martinez.
UNO was able to hold USD scoreless, but Coyote Jessica Schnell came close just missing a scoring chance when she headed the ball off the post.
UNO goalie Amy Price played all 90 minutes in the game and recorded two saves.
With the 2-0 victory, No. 11 UNO is now 14-2-1 (5-0 in the NCC) and extended its unbeaten streak to 13.
The next match, the season home finale, is Saturday Oct. 23 versus North Dakota at the soccer field at Ak-Sar-Ben at 1 p.m.
