Omaha, Neb.--North Dakota ended the Mavericks' 13-match winning streak Saturday with a 2-1 decision at the soccer field at Ak-Sar-Ben. The win was the third straight by the Fighting Sioux over UNO, including a pair of losses last season.
North Dakota struck early, scoring at the 1:33 mark with Stephanie Pfeiffer crossing a ball to Chrissy Lapp, who then sent it past UNO goalie Ellen Petersen. UNO tied the match in the 61st minute off a corner kick from Beth McGill who tapped the ball just outside the box to Amber Richardson. Richardson shot the ball from 20 yards out, just out of the reach of UND goalie Eve Compton.
With less than four minutes remaining, North Dakota took advantage of a UNO yellow card and Pfeiffer sent an indirect kick towards the goal to Kayla Lightfoot who scored the final goal.
