Mavericks Blast Bearcats 7-1

Sometimes it rains and sometimes it pours, but Wednesday the goals were definetly pouring for the Mavericks which scored a season-high seven goals behind a hat trick performance by Beth McGill.
UNO scoring began at the 14:17 minute mark when freshman Brandie Beale scored her fourth goal of the season on two quick passes from McGill and Anne Willrett. At the 20:19 mark, Willrett added a goal of her own when Meghan Pile sent a ball from midfield to Willrett who faked the goalie and left her in her dust scoring on an open goal. The 2-0 lead stood at the half even though the Mavericks outshot the Bearcats 13-2 in the first period.
Less than three minutes after the break, McGill scorched a ball off of NWMS goalie Alison Sheridon and took the rebound from the top of the box into the open goal. With the tally, McGill has scored in eight consecutive games dating back to September 12th. One minute later McGill added another goal this time on an assist from Brandie Beale crossing the ball from the left to the right post, while McGill tapped it in easy taking the score to 4-0.
Anne Willrett added her second goal of the game on a cross from McGill, netting it past new Bearcat goalie Michelle Gould. To end the scoring spree of four goals in less that 10 minutes, McGill recorded a hat trick, the second by a Mav in a week, when she took a pass from defender Meghan Pile and sent it past Gould.
Maverick Junior Jane Splittgerber notched her second goal of the year when she took a long pass from Becca Fritz, put on a few moves on the goalie and ripped it into the goal for the final UNO notch.
Northwest Missouri State added their lone goal at the 79:08 minute mark with Kristina Obley beat goalie Ellen Petersen for the score, erasing the Maverick shutout.
The UNO defense shut down NWMS, with the only additional goal scare coming late in the first half when Amy Price made an over-the-head-catch two yards from the goaline to save the goal.
Outstanding offensive performances finished McGill with three goals and two assists with Willrett tallying two goals and an assist.
The win gives UNO a 10-2-1 overall record as they prepare for two North Central Conference matches versus Augustana Saturday Oct. 10, and Minesota-Duluth Sunday, both games set for 1 p.m.
