Mavs Blow Out Vikings

UNO reeled off a season scoring high Saturday in its 8-1 victory over Augustana. The goal performance follows the seven-goal spree UNO put up Wednesday versus Northwest Missouri State. Freshman Brandie Beale recorded a hat trick, the third by a Mav in the last four games, and also added an assist.
The Maverick scoring began early at the 6:13 mark when Beale took a pass from Beth McGill and sliced it into the far right corner past Augie goalie Charise Hayward. Less than six minutes later Anne Willrett added a goal after Meghan Pile soared a direct kick to Beale who passed it to Willrett for the score. At the 22:09 mark, Beale tallied her second goal of the game on an assist from Ali Portell.
Augie sliced the UNO lead to two as Angie Hayes scored unassisted while catching UNO goalkeeper Amy Price out of her box.
UNO added another goal just before halftime as Ali Portell received an indirect kick from McGill and laced the ball from 15 yards out just under the crossbar.
Beale completed her hat trick at the 68:53 mark on an assist from Meghan Pile from a free kick. With the assist, Pile recorded a hat trick of her own tallying three assists in the game. At 80:07, Amber Richardson sent a corner kick right in front of the goal as Pile recorded her second goal of the season, tapping it in for the score from five yards out. Five minutes following, Haley Fries scored her first goal of the year as she took passes from Tricia Braziel and Jane Splittgerber in for the score. Finally, Erin Fosnaugh scored with less than a minute remaining, lofting the ball from 20 yards out over the goalkeeper.
The UNO defense shut down Augie top goal-scorer Erin Seidel who has tallied 14 goals on the season. Seidel was unable to break free from the Maverick defense and was limited to just three shots.
Amy Price and Ellen Petersen combined in goal for the UNO victory. Price recorded three saves and allowed the lone goal.
In the last four games, UNO has outscored its opponents 23-3. Next up for the Mavericks is North Central Conference newcomer Minnesota-Duluth Sunday Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
