Mavs Begin Road to Final Four

OMAHA, Neb.-- No. 11 UNO will be traveling to Kirksville, Mo., to take part in the NCAA Central Region Tournament Friday and Sunday. Nebraska-Omaha, the #2-seed will face #3-seeded Southwest Baptist while #4-seed South Dakota will play #1-seed Truman State. The winners will play for the regional title on Sunday at 12 noon for the right to face the Great Lakes Region champion in the quarterfinals on November 20. Last week UNO captured its fourth NCC crown, rolling past Minnesota State, Mankato 4-1 in the semifinals, and defeating North Dakota 2-0 in the championship game.
Odds 'N' Ends
UNO has faced each of the three teams in the regional tournament. Truman State, ranked No. 3 in the latest NSCAA/adidas ranking defeated the Mavs 1-0 early in the season. UNO posted a 3-2 victory over Southwest Baptist mid-September in a game in which six cards were handed out. UNO defeated the Coyotes 2-0, with both goals scored in the final 20 minutes of the game.
Mavs Move to #11
In the final regular season poll, UNO moved from No. 19 to its current postion of No. 11. Four teams the Mavs have played this year are ranked. Metro State and Truman State, UNO's only losses, are No. 2 and No.3 respectively. Regis, a team the Mavs defeated early in the season, holds the No. 10 spot. Southwest Baptist is listed at the No. 17 position, after falling to Truman State in its conference tournament.
Beale, Splittgerber Honored
Freshman Brandie Beale and Junior Jane Splittgerber were named the Offensive and Defensive MVP's for last weekends NCC tournament. Beale recorded three goals including the game-winner in the Mavericks' 4-1 semifinal victory over Minnesota State, Mankato, and shut the door on North Dakota in the championship game, scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win. Splittgerber entered the Minnesota State game midway through the contest and allowed only one goal. In the championship game, she recorded two saves en route to the shutout victory. The UND game was Splittgerber's second career start.
