Balanced Mavs Score 2nd Win

Four players scored in double figures Thursday night as the Mavericks opened the home season with an 82-60 non-conference win over Midland Lutheran College in front of 1,200 fans at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
UNO raised its record to 2-0 while the Warriors fell to 1-4.
Senior guard Abdul Mills led the Mavs with 15 points, while junior guard Calvin Kapels scored 12 and junior center Chris DeSpain and senior forward Andre Tarpley chipped in with 11 each. DeSpain and junior forward Ryan Curtis led both teams with eight rebounds.
Andy Kettelson, with 13 points, and Pat Bryan, with 10, led the Warriors.
UNO raced to a 14-5 lead and never trailed in the game. Tarpley scored 10 of his points in 10 minutes to lead the Mavericks to a 39-27 halftime advantage.
Kapels' three-pointer capped a 16-5 UNO run in the first five minutes of the second half and the Mavs never looked back, leading by as many as 29.
UNO shot 45.5 percent the second half and finished at 41.4 percent from the field, while holding Midland to 32.8 percent for the game and forcing 20 Warrior turnovers.
The Mavericks are next in action Sunday when they host Missouri Valley College at 3 p.m. at Sapp Fieldhouse.
