Mavs Fall in Semifinal Match 2-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Sophomore Amber Richardson took five shots and the Mavericks out shot Metro State 12-8, but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners advanced to the finals of the NCAA tournament with a 2-0 win. The Mavs (19-4-2), making their third straight trip to the final four, fell in the semifinals for the second straight year.
After UNO controlled most of the first half, the Roadrunners scored 30 minutes into the match, their 100th goal of the year, and then added another six minutes later to put UNO down by two at halftime. The Mavs came out strong in the second and out shot MSCD 7-2 and put three shots on goal. One of Richardson's shots pinged off the cross bar and came straight down, failing to cross the mouth of the goal.
Junior Amy Price made three saves but let the two first-half goals slip in. UNO has now been shut out by Metro State (24-1-0) in all three games the two have played. The Mavs, who played all their NCAA tournament games on the road this year, now have a 9-3 record in three trips to the NCAA postseason. They were the only team currently making their third straight trip to the semifinals.
Metro State will play Adlephi, 2-1 winners over Carson-Newman in the first game, Saturday at 1 p.m. for the national title.
