Curtis Scores 22 as Mav Streak Goes to 11

Ryan Curtis scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds Friday and led four players in double figures as No. 10 UNO downed Doane 81-57 for its 11th straight victory.
The Mavericks, now 14-1, will now turn their attention to defending their North Central Conference title as league play opens with home games Thursday against Augustana and Saturday against North Dakota.
UNO trailed once early in the game before forging a 35-29 halftime lead. Senior guard Abdul Mills keyed a 16-4 run by the Mavericks to open the second half, hitting a pair of three-pointers and eight points in all.
The Mavericks built the lead to as many as 24, leading 59-35 with six minutes into the second half. The Tigers made a comeback, running off 10 straight points, before Curtis answered the rally with two free throws, a dunk and a layup. The personal 6-0 run gave UNO a 65-45 lead with 10 minutes left.
Mills scored 11 points and Calvin Kapels and Andre Tarpley 10 apiece for the Mavericks, who won their seventh straight game at home. UNO outshot The Tigers 45.8 percent to 36.2 percent and owned a 50-28 rebound advantage.
The Tigers, who are now 6-7, were led by Matt Vecchio's 14 points and Mike Stoynev's 12.
