Klosterman Signs Five, Brings in NU Transfer

University of Nebraska at Omaha women's soccer coach Don Klosterman announced Wednesday the signing of five incoming freshmen to national letters of intent to play soccer for the Mavericks this fall. Also joining the Mavs will be Nebraska transfer Amber Richardson. Klosterman's class includes Missouri native Brandi Lea Beale and five Nebraskans- Richardson, Ellen Petersen, Ali Portell, Danielle McCawley and Erin Fosnough.
Richardson redshirted her freshman year at Nebraska after tearing her ACL during her senior year at Papillion-La Vista. She was named the Gatorade Circle of Champions Nebraska Player of the Year in 2002 and during her junior year she led her team in scoring with 21 points (8 goals, 5 assists). She will play in midfield for the Mavs next year.
Beale will look for time in the forward spot after scoring 204 points her first three years at Fort Osage High School (Independence, Mo.). In those years she set records for most points in a game, season and career; most assists in a game and season; and most goals in a game, season and career.
Looking for time at forward and midfield will be Lincoln East standouts Portell and Fosnough. Portell finished second on the team her junior year with 28 points (10, 8) and Fosnough finished third with 23 (7, 9).
Adding to his already strong defense, Klosterman signed McCawley to play defender and Peterson to play in goal. McCawley was named team MVP and Ralston High School Female Athlete of the Year her junior year and tallied 25 points (9, 7) in her first three years. Peterson compiled a 41-14 record and recorded five shutouts.
