Mavs Earn Shutout Over USD

Senior Mikaila Spalding won the final match of the afternoon in a tie-breaker to secure a 9-0 shutout for the Mavericks over South Dakota Sunday at Hanscom Park Tennis Center. UNO improved to 13-3 while the Coyotes evened their record at 3-3.
Spalding's match at No. 3 singles was forced into a tie-breaker after Jacklyn Engles won the second set 7-6. Spalding found herself down 10-9 in the tie-breaker but managed to comeback and win 12-10 and up her record to 6-4.
In No. 1 doubles Pam Le and Maggie Russell fell behind 5-1 to Engles and Maya Ristic but won the next seven points to win 8-5. The two improved to 7-3. Sarah Huls and Lindsay Henjum won at No. 2 to go to 11-1 and Spalding and Abby Wilson won at No. 3 to improve to 5-1.
The Mavs won the remaining singles matches in straight sets. Huls won at No. 1 for her eighth win of the year; Wilson took the No. 2 point for her sixth victory; Shannon Dinovo won at No. 4 and now leads the team with nine wins; Anna Ristic kept her record perfect at 8-0 with a No. 5 win; and Lindsey Loveland won her second match of the year with a victory at No. 6.
UNO will take a full week off before a busy stretch of four duals wraps up regional play. The Mavs will travel to Washburn, ranked second in the region, for an April 5 dual then return home to host Midland Lutheran April 7. The Mavericks will then make a trip to Minnesota to face Minnesota State, Mankato April 9 and St. Cloud State the following day. The regular season will end April 14 at Drake.
