Mavs Drop Close One Over Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Mavericks, ranked No. 1 in the region, lost 5-4 Monday evening at No. 2 Washburn. UNO led off the dual by winning all three doubles matches but the Lady Blues took five of six singles matches to give the Mavs, 13-4, their first in-region loss of the year.
The Maverick No. 1 doubles team of Pam Le and Maggie Russell defeated Erin Underwood and Lindsay Sullivan, ranked fourth in the ITA regional rankings, and No. 3 team Mikaila Spalding and Abby Wilson topped eighth-ranked Julie Huyberechts and Holly Munro.
Wilson won at No. 5 singles to put her record at 7-5 and give UNO its only singles point. Russell's and Spalding's matches went into third sets but the Lady Blues were able to hang on and win them and improve to 12-2.
The Mavs will host Midland Lutheran Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Koch Family Tennis Center at Tranquility Park before finishing regional this weekend in Minnesota.
