Nichols Signs Four for 2004-05 Season

Maverick tennis coach Bill Nichols has signed three freshmen and one transfer to attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha and begin playing in the fall season. Katie Gharst, a sophomore at Washburn last year, will join freshmen Sara Bredfeldt, Kylie Roe and Jenny Miller on the Maverick squad.
Gharst was a state champion in doubles at Millard North High School and her team took home two state titles before she graduated in 2002. At Washburn she earned all-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association second team honors in 2003 after posting a 17-9 record. She will be a sophomore this year at UNO.
Bredfeldt, a Burke High School graduate, had a 10-5 doubles record and 6-2 singles record her senior year. Roe was the state champion in No. 2 doubles her junior year at Grand Island High School and she finished third her senior year. She also lettered in volleyball and basketball all four years. Miller lettered for four years at Millard North, earning academic honors.
Nichols and the Mavericks finished second in the North Central Conference tournament this spring and advanced to the second round of the NCAA postseason. Their 16-6 dual record set a school record for season wins.
