Mavs Upset No. 10 Grand Valley State

Florence, Ala. -- Led by senior Amy McLeay's 20 kills and 11 digs, the UNO Maverick volleyball team upset No. 10-ranked Grand Valley State 3-2 (32-30, 24-30, 27-30, 30-25, 15-13) Friday afternoon at the North Alabama Lions Classic. The 2004 Mavericks, who have now faced two of last year's participants in the NCAA II Final Four, are now 1-1 on the season.
Two other Mavericks posted double-figure kills with senior outside hitter Jenny Rankin registering 14 kills and five digs and junior middle blocker Briana Ritter adding 12 kills, 6 digs, and three blocks.
Junior setter Christie Johnson registered a career-high 56 assists in the victory while junior libero Chelsea Miller tied a career-high with 27 digs.
The Mavericks, who opened the season with a four-game loss to defending national champion North Alabama on Thursday, will battle No. 22 Pittsburg State at 4:30 p.m. today.
