Mavericks Travel to Division I Drury

OMAHA, Neb.-- No. 2 UNO will travel to Springfield, Mo., this Saturday to battle Division I Drury at 11 a.m. The Mavericks opened the 2004 regular season in Denver, Colo., with a 5-0 shutout loss to Metro State and a 2-1 victory versus Regis.
About the Panthers
Drury University began the season with a 4-0 shoutout against Texas Womens University. The Panthers connected on three goals in the first half amd added another goal with 17 minutes remaining. Sophomore forward Kasey Mahaffey recorded a goal and an assist in the contest. Goalkeeper Brittany Kimbro garnered her second shutout in her career and had four saves in the win.
The Panthers have been picked in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll to finish last in the conference. In 2003, Drury finished with a record of 6-13 and averaged 1.10 goals per game.

Metro State struck early scoring its first goal in the fourth minute of the game. Metro State midfielder Ymara Guante connected on two goals and added two assists, as it upset No. 2-ranked UNO. The Roadrunners outshot the Mavericks 20-10 and also fired eight shots on goal to UNO's four. In the matchup on Saturday versus Regis the game went scoreless in the first half, but forward Beth McGill opened the second half connecting on a pass from freshman Dani McCawley. Five minutes later Regis countered the UNO attack and tied the game 1-1. With 46 seconds remaining freshman Erin Fosnough served a long pass to McGill and she netted the game-winning goal. Goalkeeper Amy Price played 90 minutes and recorded eight saves, running her record to 1-1-0. Regis goalkeeper Joanna Humphreys stopped seven Maverick shots and allowed the game-winner for the loss.
