McLeay, Christensen Lead UNO Over Cal State-Los An

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Senior outside hitter Amy McLeay and freshman middle blocker Carlie Christensen combined for 36 kills and a .387 hitting percentage to lead the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team to a 3-2 (16-30, 30-25, 32-30, 25-30, 15-10) win over host California State-Los Angeles on Thursday, Sept. 2 at the Eagles Nest in Los Angeles. The Mavericks improved to 5-1 on the season with the win.
McLeay registered a double-double with 20 kills and 13 digs, while hitting .348 and adding a season-high three service aces on the night. Christensen had a career-high 16 kills, .448 hitting percentage, and six blocks in the victory.
Junior rightside hitter Heather Hainline and junior setter Christie Johnson both turned in strong performances as well. Hainline had 10 kills and a team-high .500 hitting percentage with only one error in 18 attempts. Johnson racked up a double-double with 57 assists and a career-high 15 digs.
Nebraska-Omaha outhit the Golden Eagles .251 to .176 in the match and held a 12-8 advantage in blocks. The Mavericks hit .368 in the deciding fifth game with 9 kills, 2 errors, in 19 attempts, compared to CSULA's .125 hitting clip in game five.
The Mavericks, who have now won all three of their five-game matches this season, will have Friday off before heading to San Bernardino, Calif. on Saturday, Sept. 4 for two matches in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Classic. Nebraska-Omaha will battle Sonoma State at 12:30 p.m. and host Cal State San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific time). Cal State San Bernardino was a 2003 NCAA II semifinalist and is currently ranked No. 7 in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 poll.
