Mavericks Shoot Down Hawks, 5-0

Anne Willrett scored two goals and Beth McGill had a goal and an assist to lead the Mavericks to a 5-0 win over Rockhurst Wednesday at Ak-Sar-Ben. The Mavs, in improving to 6-2 on the season, outshot the Lady Hawks 31-4 and put 16 shots on goal in the match.
Willrett, a senior from Omaha, gave UNO a 1-0 lead early in the game when she corralled a long clearing kick in traffic and scored from inside the box just 5:33 into the contest.
The Mavericks put the game away quickly in the second half as McGill, a sophomore from Omaha, converted a pass in front of the goal from Danielle McCawley at the 46:35 mark. Less than 11 minutes later Willrett added her second goal of the game off a pass from the corner by McGill.
Brandie Beale scored on an assist from Tricia Braziel at 69 minutes and Rachel Tushner added the final goal at 84:35 on a pass from Erin Fosnough.
UNO starting goalkeeper Amy Price and freshman Ellen Petersen combined for the shutout. Price played the first 73:30 and made one save. Petersen made two saves in the closing minutes. It is the second shutout of the season for the Mavericks who earlier this year blanked NCAA Division I Drury 3-0.
The Mavericks are next in action this weekend when they visit Emporia State on Saturday and Washburn on Sunday. Both matches begin at 1 p.m.
