Willrett Hat Trick Leads UNO to 4-0 Victory
Sep 28, 2004 | Women's Soccer
UNO's Anne Willrett set a career high scoring three goals the Mavericks' 4-0 win Tuesday night versus Wayne State. The Mavericks scored early and often within the first 10 minutes of the match.
At the 4:29 mark Amber Richardson sent a corner kick to the front of the goal and Willrett converted a header to the opposite post. Just a couple minutes later (6:45) Beth McGill scored her 10th goal of the year connecting on a pass from Jaime Venhaus. Following the second goal, UNO only took 20 seconds to score when Meghan Pile sent a pass to Willrett and she faked out the goalie at the top of the box and scored on an open goal. The 3-0 score stood for the half and it wasn't until the 63:31 mark when Willrett scored the team's fourth and final goal, and recorded a hat trick. Becca Fritz and McGill sent two quick passes to Willrett as she scored on the one-on-one opportunity.
UNO outshot Wayne State 34-0 including firing off 13 shots-on-goal. In the last four games, UNO has outshot its opponents 89-20.
The Maverick defense held the Wildcats of Wayne State to zero shots. Junior Amy Price and freshman Ellen Peterson combined for the shutout, the second straight for the Mavs.
This weekend the Mavs travel to St. Cloud, where they will face St. Cloud State Saturday Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. The next home match for UNO is Wednesday Oct. 6, when it will host Northwest Missouri State at 4 p.m.
