Mavericks Begin Conference Play

OMAHA, Neb.-- UNO will begin its North Central Conference play after starting the year with a 8-2-1 record. The first conference match will be on the road in St. Cloud, Minn. where the Mavs will face St. Cloud State Saturday Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.

The Mavericks carry a career 6-0 record versus the Huskies, including a 6-1 victory last season. In the 6-game series against St. Cloud, the Mavericks have outscored the Huskies 27-4. UNO will play for the first time at St Cloud State new Husky Field that is located on St Cloud's campus.
Mavs Move up in Poll
Last week the Mavs found themselves back in the NSCAA/adidas national poll at #16 after defeating Southwest Baptist 3-2. Following a 2-0-1 record last week, UNO moved to the #14 position.
Price honored by NCC
Junior goalkeeper and former All-American Amy Price was named the North Central Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Price helped lead UNO to a 2-0-1 week record including assisting in two shutout victories as the Mavericks outscored their opponents 9-1. In the three games, Price made six saves, allowing only one goal.
About the Huskies
St Cloud State enters the match with a 5-5-0 overall record, with all 10 games ending in a shutout. The Huskies have lost back-to-back matches to Southwest Minnesota State and Concordia University(Minn.), 2-0, and 1-0 respectively. The Huskies defeated Central Missouri State 1-0, a team UNO defeated 4-1 mid-September. The game versus te Mavericks will also be St Cloud State's first conference game.
Leading the Husky attack are forwards Trista Crooke and Heidi Westrum. Crooke leads the team with five goals including three game-winners and has also added an assist. Westrum has tallied three goals, a hat trick in a 9-0 victory Sept. 17 versus Mayville State.
The Huskies have started three different players in goal, two of them, Daneen Berquist and Stephanie Brendel have each started 4 matches for St. Cloud State allowing 5 and 6 goals respectively.
Last Week Wrap-up
Last week UNO tied Emporia State 1-1, and defeated Washburn 3-0. Versus Emporia, Sophomore Beth McGill converted a bicycle kick in front of the goal on a pass from Brytten Kraft and Becca Fritz to give the Mavs the early lead at the 20:21 mark. The 1-0 lead held until the 71st minute when Emporia's Brandie Booth took a shot 15 yards out past UNO goalie Amy Price. The game went into two overtime's but UNO was unable to muster another goal despite outshooting the Hornets 26-7, including a 12-2 margin of shots on goal. Following the Emporia game, the Mavs traveled to Topeka, Kan. where they faced Washburn University. The scoring began at the 31:48 mark when McGill converted a penalty kick, her second of the year. Meghan Pile added a goal, the second of her career on a rebound off a corner kick from Molly Herzberg. Rounding out the scoring was Tricia Braziel when she scored on a pass from midfield from freshman Ali Portell. Braziel's goal was the first of the year for her and the fourth of her career.
