Christensen Earns League Honor

Freshman middle blocker Carlie Christensen of the University of Nebraska at Omaha volleyball team was selected as the North Central Conference player of the week, announced by the league office on Tueday.
Christensen (Omaha, Neb./Millard South HS) hit .508 with 41 kills, eight errors, in 65 attempts, during the Mavericks' three-match California road swing last week. She also added 17 blocks and four service aces in the three matches.
Christensen had 16 kills, six blocks and hit .448 in UNO's five-game victory at Cal State-Los Angeles last Thursday, Sept. 2. She then bettered that performance with a career-high effort against Sonoma State, on Saturday, when she registered 17 kills, seven blocks, four service aces, and a .625 hitting percentage (17k-2e-24a).
In the latest North Central Conference statistics, Christensen leads the league in hitting percentage (.466) and is third in blocks per game (1.14).
The Mavericks, currently 5-3 on the season, will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10-11, where they will face three Northern Sun Conference opponents at the 2004 North Central Region Crossover. The annual tournament pits North Central Conference teams against Northern Sun Conference squads. The two conferences comprise the NCAA Division II North Central Region.
On Friday, Sept. 10, the Mavericks will battle host school Northern State (5-3) at 11 a.m. and Winona State (4-4) at 7 p.m. The Mavericks will conclude the tournament with a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 11, against Bemidji State (2-2).
