Late Goal Breaks Maverick Winning Streak

North Dakota scored with less then five minutes remaining Friday afternoon to break a scoreless tie and give Nebraska-Omaha a 1-0 defeat, breaking a 13-game winning streak. The loss sent the Mavericks to 13-2-0 and 9-1-0 in the NCC. UNO, ranked sixth in the nation and first in the region, is still the top team in the North Central Conference with just the loss.
Despite out shooting the Sioux 18-5, the Mavs failed to score for the first time this year. UND put all five of its shots on goal and found the back of the net at 85:04 to defeat the Mavs for the fourth time in the last six chances. Sarah Thaden got the goal for the Sioux, her third of the year, when she took a pass from the right side of the box and fired it in from 10 yards away. Beth McGill led the Mavericks with eight shots and six on goal.
The Mavericks will now travel to the Great Lakes state as they attempt to win their fifth NCC championships. The regular season will wrap up with a game November 5 at Minnesota Duluth and November 6 at Minnesota State.
