Central State is Mavs' Saturday Foe

The Mavericks take to the road once again as they travel to Quincy University in Quincy, Ill., to compete in a four-team tournament this weekend. UNO will meet Central State at 3 p.m. Saturday in the first game. The Mavs will play either Truman State or the host school at 3 or 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
The Records
The Mavs have won three striaght and six of their past seven games and enter the week at 7-5. Central State is 4-5; Truman State 6-2 and Quincy is 5-2.
The Series
This will be the first meeting ever for UNO and Central State. The UNO-Quincy series is tied at 3 and Truman State holds an 8-5 edge over the Mavericks.
Last Week
The Mavericks posted a pair of wins, cruising past York College 84-34 and Peru State 75-48. Sophomore guard Denny Johnston led UNO with 16 points and added seven rebounds against York. Senior guard Calvin Kapels scored 14 second half points to boost the Mavs against Peru State. Zac Robinson led the Mavs with 19 points, while Kapels finished with 18 points.
Radio This weekend's games will not be broadcast. The next broadcast will be Dec. 31 vs. Doane.
Up Next
The Mavericks will have 11 days off before resuming action with a Dec. 29 game at Concordia-St. Paul. The Mavs return home Dec. 31 for a 1 p.m. game against Doane College before starting North Central Conference action Jan. 5 at Augustana.
The Coach
Derrin Hansen is in his first season as a collegiate head coach. The seven-year Maverick assistant took over the program in June. He is a 1991 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. He served as the head basketball and track coach at Elmwood-Murdock, Neb., High School for two years and was a graduate assistant at Nebraska-Kearney while earning his master's degree in 1995. Kenya Crandell is the associate head coach and Mitch Mosser the assistant coach.
