Huskies Edge Mavericks, 77-75

St. Cloud State shot 61 percent from the field the second half to come from behind and pin a 77-75 North Central Conference loss on the Mavericks Friday night in front of 2,050 fans at Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
The No. 12-ranked Mavericks are now 19-4 overall and 5-3 in the NCC before hosting No. 4-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato Saturday night at 8. The Huskies improved to 18-5 and 6-3 and moved into first place in the NCC.
Nate Miller scored 21 of his game-high 25 points after halftime to rally the Huskies from a five-point deficit with 8:34 to play. He added another three-pointer and hit all six of his free throws down the stretch.
The Mavs rallied from as many as six points down the first half to claim a 32-28 halftime lead, using a 6-0 run with three minutes left. They expanded the margin to a half-dozen twice early in the second half on layups by Calvin Kapels.
Kapels, who led UNO with 19 points, put the Mavericks up by 58-53 with a three-pointer with 8:34 left. Miller then tied the game with two and three-point field goals and David Dreas capped an 8-0 SCSU run with a three-pointer and UNO never led again.
The Mavs did manage a tie on a free throw by Kapels with 4:53 to play. But Miller's three-pointer, his third of the half, gave SCSU a 64-61 lead with 4:20 left.
Ryan Curtis added 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds for the Mavericks, who lost for just the second time this season in 11 games at Sapp Fieldhouse.
Besides Miller, Matt Siegle had 12 points and Adam Sullivan and Dreas 10 points each for the Huskies, who shot 56.5 percent for the game.
